You will also need to rent a power jack or another type of vehicle capable of pulling the stump out of the ground.
Alternatively, you can use a stump-removal chemical to kill the stump and speed up the natural decaying process. Most of these chemicals contain potassium nitrate, which is an extremely effective stump killer that can penetrate the wood and rot it from the inside out. Follow the instructions on your stump removal chemical carefully, and remember to keep children and pets away while applying it. After three to four weeks, the stump should be soft and rotten enough to be broken apart with an ax.
